Our 5 Top Australia Tourist Attractions

Our home is Sydney, Australia at present.  It’s a great place to live and a really interesting place to visit but because Australia is so large (around the same size as the US mainland), Sydney is just one of the places you might want to see on an Aussie vacation, ‘Down Under’.

So how do you plan an Aussie vacation? What are the Australia tourist attractions you might want to see in ‘Oz’ (as the locals affectionately refer to their home).

We’ve traveled to many parts of Australia and have some favorite destinations we’d like to share with you. Some vacations can make sure that you see most of these Aussie highlights in around 3 weeks but if you’d prefer to spend more time in less attractions take a look and decide which appeal most to you.

Sydney. Every visitor to Australia should visit Sydney.  Apart from being the gateway into this vast country, and the largest capital city home to about 4 million, it is a beautiful city built around a spectacular natural harbor. It also sports a number of glorious beaches in the city area. The famous Sydney Harbor Bridge and the shell shaped Opera House are just some of the highlights that Sydney offers tourists. With a mild climate it can be visited year round, but our favorite month here is November.

Great Barrier Reef.  Off the coast of Queensland, this is a national park that includes around 600 islands and 20,000 reefs in the largest coral reef system in the world. Snorkeling or scuba diving there is breathtaking. Rainforest on the adjacent mainland are well worth a visit while you are in the area.

Uluru is an enormous sandstone formation in central Australia that appears to rise out of nowhere. It is most spectacular when viewed at sunrise and sunset. Local aboriginal rock paintings and caves are located in this area and these sites all attract many visitors.

Barossa Valley. A well known part of South Australia and we’re pleased we discovered it.  Established by German immigrants in the mod 1800’s this area is famous for its vineyards, wineries, gourmet restaurants, antique shops and world class food. It is a charming area and only an hour’s drive from Adelaide, the capital city.

Byron Bay is probably our favorite of these Australia tourist attractions.  One of us has taken to surfing and says that Byron Bay, situated on the northern coast of New South Wales is part of the iconic Australian scene for surfing and beach lovers. The beaches are world class, the climate superb and the atmosphere very laid back.

These Australia tourist attractions are very ‘Aussie’ places to visit and we send our international friends to see them but there are other places that we’ve loved visiting too. Take a look at these on this site and on our blog, www.blog.mightydigitaldownloads.com
