We’re never surprised when our friends from all around the world tell us that they plan to travel in Sydney Australia. During our time here we’ve learned why Sydney has been described as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It’s a spectacular water city with an extensive harbor and some of the world’s best beaches. It has a mild climate, interesting people live here and there are a range places to see and things to do. When our friends arrive, these are on the top of our list to visit.
The Bridge Walk. The iconic Sydney Harbor Bridge is one of our favorite places. The three and a half hour walk up and over the bridge is a great hit with locals as well as visitors from oversees. There are 4 tours a day and those at sunrise and sunset are the most popular. The walk is entirely safe as you are connected by a safety rail for the entire walk. The views are spectacular but as you can take nothing with you including a camera, photos are taken at the top and these are available for purchase at the end of the walk.
Bronte to Bondi Coastal Walk. Another popular activity for Sydney-siders, this walk travels about 2 miles past beautiful sandstone cliffs, Aboriginal rock carvings and glorious white sand beaches. It ends at Sydney’s best known Bondi Beach where an example of the Australian surfing culture is evident in black wet suits in the ocean and surrounded by a sophisticated restaurant scene there. We often join our friends for this walk and even take a swim and eat at one of the many friendly cafes or restaurants. A friend passed Nicole Kidman on this walk once!
Ferry to Manly Beach. A 30 minute ferry ride this takes you along Sydney’s magnificent harbour and across ‘the Heads’ which open into the Pacific Ocean. It provides public transport for locals who live on the ‘North Shore’ and is available for visitors who travel in Sydney Australia. Manly Beach is a wide and white with good surf and an interesting café culture. We generally enjoy fish and chips on the beach as part of this day trip
Sydney Opera House and Bar. We’ve taken many interesting tours of this famous Australian building designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon. Now our friends take these tours and we meet them at the Opera Bar for drinks. If they are here during the opera season July through December or across the ballet season in April, May and November, December, we all go together. The Opera Bar has stunning harbour views, great music and attracts theatre goers and tourists.
