2 of Our Top Western Australia Travel Destinations

Western Australia is Australia’s largest state and found on the other side of this vast continent from Sydney and Melbourne.  A flight from Sydney to Perth (its capital city), takes 4 hours, something like a flight form New York to LA.  Western Australia is an attractive destination for Aussie travelers and increasingly for overseas visitors.

We’ve traveled to the top end of this state down to the most southern tip, to a little town called Albany.  Although there are more, these are two of our top Western Australia travel destinations

Broome and the Bungle Bungles.

We flew directly to Broome from Sydney Australia.  This allowed us to save on time and stay longer here.  Referred to as the Kimberley Region, this part of northern Western Australia was the site for the filming of the recent movie ‘Australia’.
Broome is a small coastal town at the southern end of the Kimberleys and home to Cable Beach, one of the longest and most magnificent beaches in the world.  After learning about the pearling history of Broome (one of us has a momento of this history lesson) we took a flight over the ancient Bungle Bungle Range to see waterfalls and rock formations, unique to this part of the world.

To get a ‘close up and personal’ feel, we took a four day 4-wheel drive tour into the Kimberleys.  We shared this with a well informed local driver and guide as well as plenty of emus, kangaroos, wedge tailed eagles and even camels.  This part of Australia is unique and rarely seen by most Aussies in the eastern states.

Margaret River

Margaret River a small town situated on the south west coast is another of our favorite Western Australia travel destinations for a number of reasons.  It has spectacular wildflower displays around September.  Red and green kangaroo paw and delicate, dainty orchids, milkmaids, honey pots and mountain bells are just some of the thousands of plant species that flower in this part WA.

Margaret River also has one of the best surf breaks in the county and attracts surfers from around Australia.  The surfer in our family ‘surfed till he dropped’ during our visit there.

This area is also well known for its fine wine and food.  Some of Australia’s best sauvignon blancs are grown here so we frequented a number of the local wineries and restaurants.  No wonder people visit and never want to leave this little taste of paradise!
